After the huge success of the previous film under Upendra - Naganna combination Kutumba, producer of the film Shailendra Babu had announced that his next film would be titled as Jai Ganesha having the same film troupe. But the film could not take off due to conflict between Shailendra Babu and Upendra. Upendra then gathered the same team of Kutumba (except the producer) and decided to remake the 1992 Rajinikanth starrer Annamalai under his home banner Anegudda Vinayaka Productions.

    Audio Release Event

The audio release function was held at The Club, Bangalore. Actor, politician Ambarish released the audio cassettes and CD's. The event was followed by the ramp show and dance program performed by a local dance troupe. Two songs from the film were screened for the media.

However, Gokarna was a good money spinner at the box office and completed 175 days of successful run in Bangalore. The film was followed by yet another successful film under Upendra - Naganna combination, Gowramma in 2005.
