History of Gojubavi

The village of 'Gojubavi' was part of 'supa paragana' in the 16th century. The name of the village has been given by the old people which is related to a lady in ancient time/pre independence of village, whose was 'Gojai', She was from a well-known family 'Mokashi' of village at that time. As per the history of village, the lady 'Gojai' has given her life for her husband in the name of Sati. Sati (Sanskrit: satī, also spelled suttee) is an obsolete Indian funeral custom where a widow was expected to immolate herself on her husband's pyre, or commit suicide in another fashion shortly after her husband's death.

Based on the sacrifice of her life for her husband, villagers decided to give her name as the village name which is now famous as Gojubavi in the region of Baramati and in the Pune District.

Geography and Climate

'Gojubavi' is located at 18°13'44.19"N 74°34'15.34"E.[1] It has an average elevation of 538 metres (1765 feet). It is located in rain shadow and therefore receives only around 400–500 mm of average rainfall in monsoon. The village receives scant rainfall mainly in June to August approx 60 cm, Weather in 'Gojubavi' is dry and hot in summer, with day temperatures crossing 40 degrees Celsius. Typical winter day temperatures are about 25 degrees Celsius.

Economy

'Gojubavi' and surrounding areas mostly depend on agriculture as the main source of income. The village has an airstrip near 'MIDC'.

'Gojubavi' is 10 km from 'Baramati' by road. It connects to major highways via the road network. Under the Village, there is an airport which is belong to 'Baramati'.

Having nearly 2500+ population, divided into 2 sub parts 1 is Sawantwadi.(सावंतवाडी) and another is Main Gojubavi. and some parts like Humbevasti, Atolevasti, Jadhav Vasti.
