Meet the james m gavin power plant

General James M. Gavin Power Plant is a 2.6-Gigawatt coal-fired power station in Cheshire, Ohio, USA operated by Blackstone Group LP and ArcLight Capital Partners. Named after James M. Gavin, it is the largest coal-fired power facility in Ohio, and one of the largest in the nation. Its two units, rated at 1300 MWe each, were launched into service in 1974 and 1975. The plant is connected to the grid by 765 kilovolt transmission lines (the highest rated voltage in the United States). The plant is located 2.5 km (1.6 mi) upstream along the Ohio River from the smaller, older coal-fired Kyger Creek Power Plant.

At full capacity, the plant is said to consume 25,000 tons of coal daily.

On November 22, 2015, a minor fire was reported at the plant. However, there were no outages due to the fire, which was reportedly caused by a transformer failure, and the plant continued operation. Crews cleared from the scene in less than 45 minutes.
