Life
Gauri Deshpande was born in Pune, India on February 11, 1942, and died in Pune, India on March 1, 2003. She split her time between Pune, Vinchurni, and various places around the world where her husband was posted. She also taught at the Department of English at Fergusson College, was later a professor at the department of English at Savitribai Phule Pune University.
Family
She is the daughter of Irawati Karve and Dinkar Dhondo Karve, and the granddaughter of Dhondo Keshav Karve. She has an older brother and sister. Deshpande had two daughters with her first husband; and one daughter with her second husband. She has three grandsons and one granddaughter.
