History

With history dating back to 1847, Gadens offers significant breadth and depth of expertise encompassing banking and finance, corporate advisory and tax, dispute resolution, government, intellectual property and technology, private clients, property and construction, planning and environment, recovery and insolvency, and workplace, health and safety. In 2005, the firm launched Gadens Galaxy systems, incorporating online programs, legal analysis and management to help with the processing of property transactions and mortgage and debt recovery transactions. The firm has since continued to develop these technology solutions enabling fast, efficient and cost-effective processing of large-volume legal work.

Community work

Gadens is committed to various community assistance initiatives aimed at engaging with, and giving back to, the local community. Gadens encourages employees to participate in initiatives and community awareness programs including:

• Artbank - A one of a kind, Australian Government support program that acquires the work of living, Australian contemporary artists and makes the collection available to the general public through a leasing program.

• Earth Hour – A campaign initiated by the World Wide Fund for Nature that involves millions of people around the world switching off their lights for one hour.

• The Smith Family Toy and Book Appeal – This imitative provides the opportunity to help bring a smile to a disadvantaged child's face at Christmas. Gadens actively encourages employees to purchase a new toy or book for a child.

• Through their Casual Day initiative, Gadens supports various organisations and programs including The Leprosy Mission Australia; Chain Reaction; Run for the Kids; Starlight Children’s Foundation; Bowel Cancer Australia; Lifeline’s Stress Down Day; Tristan Jepson Memorial Foundation; Blue September; National Breast Cancer Foundation; Movember; Target and UnitingCare Giving Box; Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation; and Have a Ball Foundation.

Corporate Social Responsibility

Gadens is a signatory to the Australian Pro Bono Centre's Aspirational Target which encourages lawyers to subscribe to a voluntary target of 35 hours of pro bono work per lawyer per annum. Accordingly, Gadens proactively undertakes pro bono work and participates in partnerships, community assistance programs and initiatives including in support of Many Rivers Microfinance, Women's Legal Service Victoria (WLSV) and Australian Men's Shed Association (AMSA).

Environment

Gadens is a member of the Australian Legal Sector Alliance (AusLSA), an industry-led association that works collaboratively to promote sustainable practices across the legal sector. Gadens recognises the importance of fostering sustainable communities and minimising its impact on the environment and actively engage in initiatives with the objective of sourcing energy from renewable resources, switching to 100% recycled stock paper and incorporating energy efficient materials and design principles into their office environment.
