Francis Augustus MacNutt (February 15, 1863 — December 30, 1927) was an Indiana-born Roman Catholic writer and diplomat who became the first American Papal Chamberlain.

Early life

Francis was born on February 15, 1863, in Richmond, Indiana. His father was a captain in an Ohio regiment during the Civil War. His parents were Episcopalians and his grandparents had been Presbyterians of largely Scottish and Scotch-Irish descent; however he writes in A Papal Chamberlain: The Personal Chronicle of Francis Augustus MacNutt of his discovery of the local church at the age of six.

Death

Francis Augustus MacNutt died on December 30, 1927, and is buried in the graveyard of Santa Maria am Sand in Millan near Bressanone in the largely German-speaking province of South Tyrol, Italy.
