Born Emily Fortune Feimster, Feimster grew up in Belmont, North Carolina.

She moved to Los Angeles in 2003 to pursue comedy after graduating from Peace College in North Carolina. In 2005, she joined The Groundlings Theatre to take improv and sketch classes. After four years of training, she was selected to be in the Groundlings' Sunday Company.
