Fort Ransom State Park is a North Dakota state park located in the Sheyenne River valley in Ransom County, two miles north of the town of Fort Ransom. The park sits along the Sheyenne Valley National Scenic Byway, the first route in North Dakota to be given this designation.

Activities and amenitiesEdit

  • Visitors center: Displays interpret the lives of the area's 19th-century sodbusters and of the Mound Builders who lived here from 5000 to 8000 years ago.
  • Historic buildings: Two homesteader farms are preserved in the park — the Bjone House and the Andrew Sunne farm.
  • Trails: The park has nearly 15 miles (24 km) of trails for use by hikers, bikers, equestrians, skiers, and snowmobilers.
  • Camping: The park offers 36 campsites, both improved and primitive.
  • Boating: Canoe and kayak rentals are available for use on the Sheyenne River.
  • Picnicking: In addition to picnic shelters and a playground, the Sodbuster Building has tables and kitchen facilities for groups.
