Fiona Steil-Antoni (born on 10 January 1989 in Niederkorn, Luxembourg) is a chess Woman International Master who has represented Luxembourg in seven Chess Olympiads, winning the individual gold medal in Turin 2006.

Early life

Steil-Antoni was taught to play chess by her father when she was nine years old. She made it into the national team after just one year and was trained by GM Vlastimil Jansa from then on.

She first represented Luxembourg in the World Youth Chess Championship in Oropesa del Mar in 2000, and went on to participate in that tournament a total of six times. She also represented Luxembourg four times in the European Youth Chess Championship, and in the World Junior Chess Championship in Puerto Madryn 2009.

Steil-Antoni represented Luxembourg in seven Chess Olympiads from 2002 to 2014, including one year on the men's team in Khanty-Mansiysk 2010. Her best result was in the 37th Chess Olympiad in Turin 2006, when she scored 10/12 and won the gold medal on board 2. She was awarded the Woman FIDE Master (WFM) title for this result.

Steil-Antoni finished equal second in the WGM tournament of Condom, Gers 2008. She gained the Woman International Master (WIM) title in April 2010 for her results in the 37th Chess Olympiad 2006, the World Youth Chess Championship 2007, the Vandœuvre-lès-Nancy Open 2008, and the Condom, Gers WGM 2008.

She has won the Luxembourg Women's Chess Championship several times, and has finished second in the Klaksvík Open 2010, the Uxbridge e2e4 Autumn Women's International in 2010, and the Mulhouse WIM 2012.

Steil-Antoni has represented Luxembourg in the Small Nations Chess Team Tournament in 2009 and 2013, winning the team bronze medal in Andorra la Vella 2009. She represented Luxembourg in the open European Team Chess Championship in Porto Carras 2011.

She and IM Tom Weber won the Blitz Pairs tournament in Gibraltar 2011. This was the first time “The Smashing Pawns”, a club she founded together with some friends, was represented in any tournament. She currently plays for The Smashing Pawns (Luxembourg), Vandoeuvre (France) and Cheddleton (England).
