History

They trademarked the Summit Appliance brand name in their first year, and began their distribution in Long Island City, New York. In 1983, needing additional room for expansion, they moved their headquarters and operations to the Bronx. In 1998 they purchased their current HQ building in the Bronx, where their manufacturing, operations, back office, and distribution are all located. To accommodate Felix Storch, Inc.'s continued growth, in the 2008-2009 period they added state-of-the-art warehouse facilities in Edison, New Jersey, and purchased a building in Wallingford, Connecticut, housing their fabrication facility, bringing their total property for product development, manufacturing, and warehousing to nearly 300,000 square feet. Their products now include a wide range of major appliances sold both nationally and internationally and delivered to the Northeastern United States using their own FSI trucks. In 2015, FSI, achieved ISO 9001:2008 and ISO/IEC 17025:2005 certification, an internationally recognized quality management standard. Despite their expansion, they remain a private, family-owned business with no outside investors.

Brands

Felix Storch, Inc. houses four different lines: Summit Appliance, Summit Commercial, Accucold, and PureTherm. Today, they carry over 600 basic models of specialty refrigerators and freezers, including the industry's largest collection of built-in undercounter and ADA-compliant models. The focus of FSI is crafting innovative products to meet the unique needs of customers who might not find their appliance solution in a big box store.

Projects & Affiliates

In 2007, FSI matched a $248,000 grant from the New York City Department of Small Business with $300,000 of its own investment to provide specialized training to its employees. In 2008, a quality professional was briefly employed to train employees in quality and introduce ISO quality and prepare a quality manual for the company. Sadly enough, the company was not prepared to accept the role of quality and profit was the only concern. The training course described herein was completed after the release of this professional. Seventy-five members of the FSI team completed a year-long course in subjects such as quality control, customer service, packaging, lean manufacturing, assembly, safety and warehousing. In light of its success for both FSI and New York, the program was renewed in 2009, with an expanded curriculum that added instruction in ESL and mathematics. They are recognized as a Made In NYC company, as they fully manufacture several of their product lines (including electric cooktops and blanket warmers) in their Bronx facilities. In 2014, they were recognized as one of NYC's leading employers in proactively hiring veterans.
