Family firm institute educate connect inspire
History
The Family Firm Institute (FFI), was founded in 1986. FFI is an international resource for interdisciplinary education, research, and collaboration in the family enterprise field. FFI's home office is located in Boston, Massachusetts; it also has regional chapters throughout the US and in Canada.
Leadership and governance
The Family Firm Institute is led by an executive director and governed by a board consisting of a president, first vice president and president elect, a vice president for strategic planning, a secretary and treasurer, and additional board members.
The first executive director was Rod Correll. In February 1992, Judy L. Green, PhD, was named executive director.

Awards
FFI recognizes outstanding contributions to the field of family enterprise advising, as well as work that enhances understanding of family firms as a form of business enterprise. The organization annually bestows four awards: the Richard Beckhard Practice Award, Barbara Hollander Award, Interdisciplinary Achievement Award and the International Award.

FFI also has two annual awards for academic excellence, the Best Doctoral Dissertation and the Best Unpublished Research Paper. Jeremy Short, Tyge Payne and Keith Brigham, professors at Texas Tech University, received the Best Article award in 2009 for their article "Family Firms and Entrepreneurial Orientation in Publicly Traded Firms: A Comparative Analysis of the S&P 500".
