Emmett Seawell (April 5, 1862 - July 7, 1939) was an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of California from January 8, 1923 to July 7, 1939.

Early Life and Education
Born in Yountville Napa County, California, Seawell was the son of California pioneers, William N. and Sarah A. Seawell.
He graduated in 1887 from the Pacific Methodist College of Santa Rosa, and was admitted to the California bar in 1890.
Career
In 1902, he was elected to the position of Judge of the Superior Court for Sonoma County. Despite the judgeship position, he was superintendent of schools in San Francisco from 1902 to 1905. In 1914 he was appointed Judge of the Superior Court for Stanislaus County, a position he held until 1919. He was elected as a member of the Supreme Court of California in 1922, on which bench he rendered signal service for nearly seventeen years, until his sudden death, which occurred July 7, 1939, in San Francisco.
