Edmundo Desnoes (Havana, Cuba, 1930), is a Cuban writer, author of the novel Memorias del subdesarrollo (Memories of Underdevelopment), a complex story depicting the alienation of a Cuban bourgeois struggling to adapt to the process of the Revolution. He originally called the work Inconsolable Memories in the first English edition. The book was adapted in 1968 into a seminal Latin American film, Memories of Underdevelopment, by the director Tomás Gutiérrez Alea, who decided on the name Memories Of Underdevelopment, the name by which it is today known in the English-speaking world.
