The first beauty queen in Ecuador was Sara Chacón Zúñiga from Guayaquil, Guayas province in 1930. She wore the brand and the crown of Miss Ecuador for very first time. The contest was inactive for more than 20 years until 1955 when Leonor Carcache won the first modern title of Miss Ecuador, and became the first representative of the country to the Miss Universe pageant.

Representatives from the 24 provinces that make up Ecuador compete annually for the title of Miss Ecuador among others. In addition to representatives to Miss Universe, Miss International, Miss Supranational and Miss Grand International; Miss Ecuador Organization also selects the candidates for Miss United Continents and Reina Hispanoamericana, under direction of Mrs. María del Carmen de Aguayo. Mr. Julián Pilco has the rights to choose and send a contestant to Miss World through the national pageant Miss World Ecuador, sice 2014. The representatives for Miss Earth, and Miss Latin America are selected by Mr. José Hidalgo, the owner of Miss Earth Ecuador and the rights to send an Ecuadorian delegates to these contests. Mrs. Cecilia Niemes has the rights to send a delegate to Miss Atlántico Internacional.
