The Dzodze Penyi Senior High School also called DZOSEC is located on the land belonging to Dzodze and Penyi in the Ketu North District of the Volta Region of Ghana. The School was established in 1963 as a teacher training college. Mr. S.S. Dogbe, the first principal, was transferred from St Francis Teacher Training College, Hohoe in the Volta Region to head the school. It was changed into a secondary school in 1972. After the change, a new headmaster was appointed for the school called Mr Tordzro and he was assisted by Mr. Dick Ametewee. Currently, the school has 44 permanent teachers, 1 service personnel, 1 Peace-Corp volunteer from USA and 35 non-teaching staff. The motto of the School is 'Stoop to Conquer'. These words were taken from a comedy titled She Stoops to Conquer which was written by Oliver Goldsmith an Irish author.

Genesis of Secondary School

The Ministry of Education took the decision to scrap some Teacher Training Colleges in the country in 1971 and Dzodze Training College was a victim. Students of the training college were transferred to the Akatsi Teacher training College. Only the last batch of teachers were left. The school was changed to a Secondary School and few students were admitted in 1971-72 academic year as a secondary school. The school now has a school library, Science Resource Centre, Computer Laboratory, Visual Arts Workshop, Boarding facility, a standard playing field. The school has a population of 970 students; 560 boys and 410 girls.

Academic programmes

Programmes run by the school include General Arts, General Science, Agricultural Science, Visual Arts, Home Economics and Business.

Accommodation

Over the years classrooms, administration block and a boys dormitory were built for the students. A 540-capacity girls’ dormitory for the Dzodze-Penyi Senior High School was inaugurated and handed over by the Volta Regional Minister, Joseph Amenowode in 2009, with an assurance that the government was committed to the upgrading and rehabilitation of facilities in second cycle institutions. The Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) project, executed by John Mock Construction Works, is expected to address the major challenges that female students of the school go though in their search for good residential accommodation. The then Headmaster Mr. John F.Q. Agbadi, lamented the lack of staff bungalows for the school, which was making supervision difficult in view of the increasing student population, and called for government’s assistance.

Educational Achievements

The Dzodze-Penyi Senior High School has, despite its low admission grades, made a lot of strides on the academic ladder, and is poised to do even better in the nearest future.

Notable among her achievements was the laudable performance on the Ghana Education Service (GES) 'league table' for 2010, where she ranked 2nd in the Ketu District, 16th out of 70 in the Volta Region, and 197th on the national scale of 470 schools.
