Digambar Kamat (born 8 March 1954) is an Indian politician. He was the Chief Minister of Goa from June 2007 to March 2012. He belongs to the Indian National Congress. Since 2006, he has been the president of Swimming Federation of India.

Early life

Digambar was born in Margao. He holds a bachelor's degree in science (BSc)
Political career

Digambar Kamat quit the Indian National Congress (INC) in 1994 and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) when he was denied the INC ticket. In 2005, he left the BJP-led government in the state and returned to the Congress. On 25 July 2007, Kamat's government fell into crisis, as it appeared to not have a majority after resignations and alliance break-ups. However, it saved itself and went on to rule Goa for the next 5 years up to 2012. He resigned from the post of Chief Minister on 6 March 2012, after the BJP won 24 seats against INC's 9 seats in the Goa Assembly Elections held in March 2012.

Digambar is married to Asha and has two children .
