Technology
A DeskSite is an app designed exclusively for large screen, Internet-connected devices, such as desktops, laptops, tablets, and TV sets, (rather than smartphones). Each app is customized around a specific entertainment brand, (e.g., the Broncos DeskSite, the Steelers DeskSite, etc.), and automatically & transparently delivers high-definition video to opt-in users.
Like a DVR for the Internet, content is downloaded and stored on the end-user’s hard drive, enabling video playback without an active Internet connection. This video-on-demand system also eliminates the buffering and freezing typically associated with streaming video from websites, allowing viewers to instantly watch their selected video. Other differentiating video playback features include fast-forward, rewind, and slow-motion. Unlike a website, where users typically manually search for new content, DeskSites offer optional audiovisual alerts that proactively engage viewers whenever a new “user-approved” video has fully downloaded and is ready to view.
DeskSites permit marketers to target video ads by exact age and gender, as well as control exact reach and frequency—which is not possible via (open-access) websites, like Hulu, YouTube, etc.
