Career

Buckley's first involvement with film music was as a choirboy performing on Peter Gabriel’s score for Martin Scorsese’s 1988 film The Last Temptation of Christ. He continued his musical education at the University of Cambridge where he subsequently taught. After graduating, he moved to London and began a career writing music for TV shows and commercials. In 2006 Buckley moved to Los Angeles to become an additional writer on a number of Harry Gregson-Williams’ scores, including Shrek, Gone Baby Gone, Flushed Away, Arthur Christmas, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time and The Number 23. He has also contributed music to the video game Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, and the TV show Shrek the Halls. In addition to his work for Gregson-Williams, he has written additional music for Danny Elfman on films including American Hustle, Big Eyes and Fifty Shades of Grey (including the choral piece Bliss) and for Hans Zimmer and Rupert Gregson-Williams on Winter's Tale.

He has worked with filmmakers including Ridley and Tony Scott, Ben Affleck, Joel Schumacher, Rob Minkoff, Luc Besson, Pierre Morel, Taylor Hackford and Louis Leterrier. Notable film scores include The Town and The Forbidden Kingdom. He is also the composer for the critically acclaimed Scott-produced CBS television series The Good Wife and its spinoff The Good Fight.

In 2015 Buckley provided the score for the WB/Rocksteady game Batman: Arkham Knight. 2016 projects included Sacha Baron Cohen's film Grimsby for Columbia, Shane Black and Joel Silver's film The Nice Guys for Warner Brothers, and the PBS miniseries Mercy Street.

In 2011 Buckley was included in BAFTA's list of "Brits to Watch", was the recipient of BMI Awards for his work on The Good Wife in 2013 and 2016, and earned an Emmy Award nomination in 2017 for Outstanding Theme Music for his work on The Good Fight.
