Dadhi in Ropar, Punjab is a small village in India near the Sikh towns of Kiratpur Sahib and Anandpur Sahib. The village is situated on the bank of the Sutlej about 10 km south of Anandpur, about 30 km north of Rupnagar and 90 km from Chandigarh on the Nangal-Rupnagar-Chandigarh road (NH21).

Kiratpur Sahib was established in 1627 by the 6th Nanak, Guru Hargobind, who bought the land from Raja Tara Chand of Kehloor through his son, Baba Gurditta. The place is also associated with the memory of a Muslim saint, Pir Buddan Shah who, according to legends lived about 800 years.

It is a sacred place for the Sikhs. Guru Nanak Dev is said to have visited this place when it was little more than a wilderness. Guru Hargobind, the sixth Guru spent the last few years of his life here. Both Guru Har Rai and Guru Harkrishan were also born at this place and they received the Gurgadi (Guruship) at this place.

"Guru Ramana Maharshi Gramin Vikas Sanstha", a non-government organisation has been working well for the welfare of local people and working for a cause to make this village a better place. Most of the young people of this area are well educated. Dr. Rattan Chand, a highly placed bureaucrat in Govt. of India, hails from this village. Dr. Rattan Chand apart from Government of India has worked with many international organisations as USAID, International Monetary Fund (IMF), UNICEF, WHO etc.

A week-long spiritual festival "Srimad Bhagvad Katha Saptah" was organised at the village from 29 May to 5 June 2014 by "Guru Ramana Maharshi Gramin Vikas Sanstha". Pandit Shiv Shastri gave a week-long lecture on spirituality. Notable attendees were Dr. Rattan Chand (Bureaucrat, Government of India) and Mr. Arvind Mittal,Convener - BJP Youth Wing and Ex. Addl. Advocate General, Government of Punjab and Suresh Sharma, Advocate Supreme Court of India.

Major Events

Cabinet Minister of Punjab Mr. Madan Mohan Mittal laid the foundation stone for Gopal Goshala under the banner of Guru Ramana Maharshi Gramin Vikas Sanstha on 25 July 2015. He gave an hour long lecture to the residents of Dadhi and urged them to support this noble cause. Dr. Rattan Chand also supported this noble cause and thanked Mr. Mittal for making time for the event. Mr. Mittal said that it is an important event keeping in mind the number of stray cows that need shelter in and around this village.

Sardar Harpal Singh is the most recent elected Sarpanch (Village Head) of Dadhi.

Guru Ramana Maharshi Gramin Vikas Sanstha

One of the most important organisations that have come up from Dadhi is Guru Ramana Maharshi Gramin Vikas Sanstha. It is a Punjab-based non-profit, non-political, and non-governmental organization established and registered under Punjab Co-operative society’s act 1961. It has been formed by the efforts of the hard-working people of the village and it now has a distinguished name in the state as one of the most efficient non-profit organisations. It is the manifestation of turbulence within the heart of seven acquaintances that internalized the pain of people leading their life in drudgery and crises. Since the inception organization has been striving for generate awareness among downtrodden section of the society towards their rights and for provide them an appropriate stand in the society. The organisation has been working relentlessly in district Ropar for common good. It has achieved major feats in protecting stray animals especially cows of the region. The Organisation has often been praised by may notable social workers, politicians and bureaucrats for its good work. It has been named after the enlightened master Ramana Maharshi who was not only a great philosopher and sage but also a great lover and protector of animals. The Secretary of the Organisation Mr. Manoj Kumar is said to be great follower of the philosophy of Ramana Maharshi and has been a torch-bearer in the fight against animal abuse. The organisation has also been credited for laying the foundation stone of first and only Goshala of this village "Gopal Goshala" on 25 July 2015 by Shri Madan Mohan Mittal, Cabinet Minister of Punjab, India.
