The house has two stories and eleven rooms and was designed by architecture firm Kees and Fisk. Construction was completed between 1882 and 1883, and the architecture is a combination of Queen Anne style and that of English designer Charles Eastlake.
In 1965 George and Frances Comstock gave the house to the Minnesota Historical Society, and starting in 1976, the house was restored to its original late 19th-century style.
