History
In 2005, the company was founded in Houston, Texas.
On August 27, 2009, the company was incorporated. Later, in the same year, CEO Joseph Bryant announced an oil drilling partnership with Sonangol, Nazaki, and Alper.
In 2014 a class action lawsuit in the United States alleged that Cobalt paid foreign officials to secure oil concessions, including Manuel Vicente of Sonangol and the head of Angola’s military and security intelligence department, general Manuel Helder Vieira Dias Junior. If so they violated the US Foreign Corrupt Practices Act of 1977.
