History

CIMLS was founded in 2001 by a commercial real estate professional. Over its history it has been privately financed and maintained its status as an open data site – enabling all visitors to add and view listings for free. In 2007, CIMLS entered into a limited partnership agreement with mynextdeal.com. In 2011, management responsibilities were taken over by Cy Khormaee, who took a temporary leave from business school to run the company.

Business

The Commercial Investment Multiple Listing Service, with thousands of listings, has a free basic membership that enables users to search listings and place information and one photograph about a property. A gold membership, currently $20 a month, includes many extras like priority placement of a listing and the ability to attach marketing packages like property fliers.

Recently CIMLS has also added comparable property data sheets to its offering. This feature, which provides property images, transaction date, prices, and location information, is still only available in Portland, Oregon.
