Life

After graduation in 1980 at the BG / BRG Kirchengasse (Graz-Geidorf), Wehrschütz studied law from 1981-1985 at the University of Graz, furthermore also Slavic, but did not complete his study.

Wehrschütz is militia officer in the Austrian Army News Agency (Major).

Journalistic activity

Wehrschütz started his journalistic activity in the right-wing monthly magazine Aula. In the years 1987-1990 Wehrschütz was chief editor of the weekly newspaper Neue Freie Zeitung of the FPÖ and started in various journals. In 1988 he volunteered for the Neue Zürcher Zeitung and wrote in another order on the sheet a few years reviews in "The Political Book". He writes regularly for the Kleine Zeitung about the Balkans. He has also written many articles for various publications.

Since 1991 Wehrschütz is at ORF, where he worked for the ORF radio in the current service at ORF-teletext and thereafter until 1999-1992. In 1999 Wehrschütz was sent as a Balkan expert from ORF to Belgrade, where he has the ORF bureau shall apply. He looked from there reporting on the former Yugoslavia and Albania. Two years he was also responsible for Bulgaria. 2014 he was further appointed as head of the new ORF office in Kiev.

In June 2011, candidate Wehrschütz who became the FPÖ attributed, for the post of Director-General of the ORF. According to information have the FPÖ does not meet his expectations, so he resigned in 2002 from the Party.

Wehrschütz speaks English, Russian, Ukrainian, Serbian, French, Slovenian, Macedonian and Albanian and is Militärdolmetsch for Russian and Ukrainian. He is married and has two daughters.

In December 2014, the Austrian journalist was Christian Wehrschütz of the trade magazine for journalists elected Austrian journalist of the year.

In September 2015 Wehrschütz was entrusted with the management of the new ORF foreign offices in Kiev.
