It is an Indian institute for higher education established under ‘The Chandigarh University Act’ and is recognized by UGC. Located in Greater Mohali, Punjab, CU is the largest university near Chandigarh with more than 30,000 students from across India and 30 countries. Before becoming private university it was a private college ‘Chandigarh Group of Colleges, Gharuan’ affiliated to Punjab Technical University.
CU is a residential university with separate hostels for boys and girls housing more than 15,000 students. It is broadly organized into 16 institutes, providing education through more than 90 programs including doctorates, post graduate and graduate programs in disciplines taught by more than 1200 tenured faculty members.

CU has partnered with 100 universities — more than 36 have QS World Rankings and are ranked among the top 700 universities of the world. The partner universities includes University of Salamanca, Spain that carries a 798-year legacy and has figured amongst the top 100 universities in QS World Ranking in the domains of Modern Languages, Fine Arts and Humanities.

Chandigarh University announced its Joint Placement Programme (JPP) for its 2014-15 batch based on the success of JPP 2014 as more than 219 multinational companies.
Since its launch, the JPP of Chandigarh University and CGC has provided job placement opportunities to more than 54,000 students of North India with more than 1000 multinationals recruited students under the program.
