Carlo Vittorio Amedeo delle Lanze(1712-1784) was a Roman Catholic cardinal.

Life

Born in 1712 son of Carlo Francesco Agostino, conte di Sale e di Vinovo the illegitimate son of Carlo Emanuele II.In his youth he become a soldier and started a military career in the army of the Kingdom of Sardinia but in 1730 he left the army and decided to follow the ecclesiastic career, he studied at Pontifical Academy for noble.Ordained as priest in 1736 he did his pastoral work in Turin as spiritual assistant of young people at university students. In 1743 he was named abbot of San Giusto di Susa then he was also named Santa Maria del Lucedio and San Benigno di Fruttaria, during the tenures as abbot Delle Lanze was closed with the clergy and people of Susa Valley and he visited the parishes of the valley.In 1747 he was named cardinal and titular bishop of Nicosia.He presieded the marriage between Vittorio Amedeo III and Maria Antonietta of Spain.In 1775 he was named segretary of the Congregation of the Council.

Teaching

In his youth Delle Lanze was supposed to be close to Jansenism but he his late life he was a supporter of jesuit and part of the zelanti.

Papal Elections

As a cardinal Delle Lanze participated in 3 conclaves:1758, 1769 and 1774.During tha conclave of 1774, Delle Lanze was one of the pro-Jesuit cardinals, and in the first ballots he received votes with the highest number of votes recorded in the day of 25 October, but due to the opposition of the cardinals with strong ties with the European monarchies he wasn't elected as pope.
