Carl Bugge

Carl Bugge (13 September 1881 – 7 April 1968) was a Norwegian geologist. He was born in Heddal, and grew up in Gloppen. He was half-brother of geologist Arne Bugge, son-in-law of painter Erik Werenskiold, and father of geologist Jens A. W. Bugge.

Bugge graduated as mineralogist in 1903. He was appointed myntmester at Kongsberg from 1907 to 1921. In 1918 he delivered the doctorate thesis Kongsbergfeltets geologi. He was appointed director-general of the Norwegian Geological Survey for thirty years, from 1921 until his retirement in 1951. In 1954 he published the geological summary work Den kaledonske fjellkjede i Norge.
