Robert Paulson (April 28, 1981 – January 22, 2016), known as Cadalack Ron, was an American battle rapper and underground hip hop artist from Los Angeles.

Paulson, who was a childhood friend of singer Josh Groban, based his material on his life experiences, including his drug addictions. He also went under the aliases "The Methadone Don" and "Black Tar Rap Star", alluding to his dependency. In May 2014, he attracted negative publicity for footage in which he appeared to inject himself with heroin during a rap battle. Previously long-haired and muscular, Paulson's appearance in that battle was described by Peter Cashmore of The Guardian as having "gone from looking like Kid Rock, to looking like a kid on rock". Paulson later confirmed that he had only injected himself with Gatorade. In May 2015, Paulson claimed to be sober, and to have had a phase of ejaculating blood after giving up steroids. During this time, he took on the moniker "Caddy 3.0" and began to proclaim a message of peace, love, and spiritual redemption.

Perception vs. Reality
Though he was perceived to be an addict by many, some figures close to him refute this.

The strength of this perception is due to his troubled past in combination with him playing so well to the character that is "The Methadone Don" and the "Black Tar Rap Star". Often, his opponents within battle rap would use drugs as an angle but instead of taking a defensive position, Ron would often use that material and play to it, making the angle his strength rather than his weakness.
Legacy
Though outlets focus on the negative history of Cadalack Ron, many within the Battle Rap community understand his vast contributions to the culture. Cadalack Ron was an articulate rapper, not merely talking about ones appearance, stage name or sex. That may be communicated for those who can't read past the surface level, but beyond it there is often a message such as racial inequalities and double standards. Creative and at times radical, he can often be misunderstood but because of his authenticity, his actions carry weight. With it, he has pushed the envelope within battle rap as far as only he would be capable to do so.

Robert Paulson is survived by separated wife and his 2 sons, Lion and Elijah Blue. He was 34 years old.
In March 2015, Annie Hardy of the band Giant Drag gave birth to Paulson's son Silvio. Silvio died at the age of 17 days of SIDS.
