Bulandi is a Bollywood action family drama film, a remake of the Tamil movie Nattamai. In Bulandi, Anil Kapoor portrays the protagonist, with Rekha and Raveena Tandon in supporting roles. Rajinikanth plays the father of the protagonist,respiring his role from Tollywood Film Pedarayudu. Anil Kapoor enacts the role of the head of the village. The story revolves around the environment of a village under the Panchayati Raj rule. The hero's family brings justice to the village. Nattamai was also made in Kannada (Simhadriya Simha) starring Vishnuvardhan.

Synopsis

Bulandi (2000) starring Anil Kapoor with Rekha and Raveena Tandon

The story revolves around Dharamraj "Dada" Thakur (Anil Kapoor). Since the death of his father Ghajraj Thakur (Rajinikanth), Dada Thakur has been the head of the village. His family consists of his wife Lakshmi (Rekha) and two younger brothers, Arjun and Nakul. Dada Thakur and Lakshmi are virtually like parents to Arjun and Nakul. Dada Thakur is highly respected in society and his word is considered law. Arjun gets married to a city girl, Meena (Raveena Tandon). At first, Meena resents her husband's subservience to his elder brother, but when she realizes that Dada Thakur helped her father in his business, she becomes respectful towards her brother-in-law. When Arjun is wrongly accused of raping a schoolteacher, everyone awaits Dada Thakur's decision, which affects everyone in the household.
