Brendan McDowell (born 12 March 1992) is an Australian ice hockey and inline hockey player currently playing for the Melbourne Mustangs in the Australian Ice Hockey League and is a member of the Australian national team.

Playing career

McDowell first played for the Melbourne Blackhawks of the Victorian Ice Hockey Association in 2010. The following year he switched over to the Melbourne Braves of the same league. In 2012 McDowell was signed by the Melbourne Mustangs of the Australian Ice Hockey League (AIHL). He played in 19 games for the club, scoring four goals and six assists. At the end of the 2012 AIHL season McDowell signed with the Melbourne Red Wings of the Australian Junior Ice Hockey League (AJIHL) to play in the inaugural 2012-13 season which ran during the AIHL's off-season. In his only season with the Red Wings McDowell was named captain and recorded 45 points in 18 games, which included 35 goals. McDowell returned to the Mustangs for his second season in the AIHL where he played in all 28 games of the regular season and finished with 31 points. In 2014 McDowell was named as one of the Mustangs alternate captains for the 2014 AIHL season.

McDowell was first selected to represent Australia in 2010 where he joined the national under-18 team to compete in the 2010 IIHF World U18 Championship Division II Group B tournament being held in Kiev, Ukraine. Australia finished the tournament in last place and were relegated to Division III for the following year, while McDowell recorded only a single goal in his five games. In December 2010 McDowell was selected for the national under-20 team to compete in the 2011 IIHF World U20 Championship Division II Group B tournament. He was named as one of the teams alternate captains and finished the tournament with three points and a plus-minus of –7. In 2014 McDowell was selected for the national senior team to compete in the 2014 IIHF World Championship Division II Group A tournament in Belgrade, Serbia. Australia finished in fourth place while McDowell recorded four points in five games.

As an inline hockey player McDowell has played for the national inline hockey team on one occasion. In 2012 he represented Australia at the 2012 IIHF InLine Hockey World Championship Division I tournament, scoring four goals and six assists. He has also represented Victoria at the 2011 ILHA National Championships in both the senior division and under-21 division for which he won a gold medal and silver medal respectively.
