Bhrikuti is a municipality of Kapilvastu District in Lumbini Zone of Southern Nepal. The municipality was established on 19 September 2015 by merging the existing Budhi, Hariharpur, Rajpur and Barakulpur Village development committees (VDCs). The center of the municipality is established in the former Budhi VDC of Hanuman Bazaar area. After merging the four VDCs population it had a total population of 26,282 according to 2011 Nepal census. After the government decision the number of Sub Metropolitan cities and municipalities has reached 12 and 217 respectively in Nepal.

Municipality

The Government announced additional 26 municipalities. With this announcement Bhrikuti has been upgraded to be one of the municipalities of Nepal; previously it was a proposed municipality. Adjoining Budhi, Hariharpur, Rajpur and Barakulpur VDC was merged with Bhrikuti to upgrade it to the municipality.
