For the 12-month period ending July 30, 2011, the airport had 15,500 aircraft operations, an average of 42 per day: 97% general aviation and 3% military. At that time there were 24 aircraft based at this airport: 83% single-engine, 4% multi-engine, 4% jet, and 8% helicopter.

History

The airport was originally activated in 1937. Original construction of the airport was as a Works Project Administration project during the Great Depression. The airport was used as a base of operations during World War II by the Army Air Corps for antisubmarine patrols. A general aviation airport since 1946, the airport was used for commercial flights by two airlines, Trans Texas Airlines and Delta Airlines, initially.

Improvements

The original terminal building was replaced in the late 1970s. A $230,000 building replaced the original building. Other improvements included paved runways, taxiway, parking apron as well as lighting costing $593,000.

Runway and taxiway improvements were improved in 2009. Partial financing was from a $2.9 million grant from the Texas Department of Transportation.

In 2014, facilities at the airport were completely renovated. Upcoming improvements include a 12,500 sq ft hangar, a 2,500 sq ft office building, removal of a two unit T-Hangar replaced by an eight unit T-Hangar.
