BNS Bijoy is a Castle Class guided missile corvette of the Bangladesh Navy. She is serving Bangladesh Navy from 2011.

History

BNS Bijoy was laid down by Hall, Russell & Company of Aberdeen, Scotland on 25 June 1980 and launched on 3 June 1981. She was commissioned to the Royal Navy as HMS Dumbarton Castle on 12 March 1982. She served Royal Navy from 1982 to 2008. The ship was decommissioned in 2008. In April 2010, she was sold to Bangladesh Navy.

Career

From 21 May 2014, the ship underwent major refit and upgradation to suite Bangladesh Navy's requirement which continues until December 2010. Bangladesh Navy acquired the ship at 14 May 2010. The ship reached Chittagong on 21 January 2011. On 5 March 2011, the ship was commissioned in Bangladesh Navy as BNS Bijoy.

BNS Bijoy took part in Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training (CARAT), a bilateral exercise with United States Navy, in 2011 and 2015.

Armament

The ship carries four C-704 automated anti-ship missiles. Besides it has one AK-176 main gun and two Oerlikon 20 mm auto cannons. It has a flight deck which can accommodate helicopter up to Westland Sea King size.
