Early life and education

Athena Cage was born and raised in Russellville, Kentucky, United States. She was educated at Western Kentucky University.

Career

Cage started her music career as a background singer, working with several artists including Amy Grant and The Isley Brothers. Cage moved from Kentucky to Atlanta to pursue a music career. After an audition, she was signed as the lead singer of Kut Klose, a R&B girl group. Cage has been featured on three platinum albums, including two with Keith Sweat.

In 2001 she signed to hit makers Tim & Bob as a solo act, and that summer released the hit "Hey Hey" Her song "All or Nothing" is featured in the Save the Last Dance feature film and its soundtrack album.

In 2007, Cage and the original group members of Kut Klose re-formed to be part of former mentor Keith Sweat's Sweat Hotel Live album. On September 2010, a new song, "Let It Ring", was released via iTunes; it has been confirmed to be the buzz single off the trio's second album.

Philanthropy and community service

In 2003, Cage established The Athena Cage Scholarship Fund at Western Kentucky University, her alma mater. The money for the scholarship was raised through a concert series. At the second concert of the series in 2004, she teamed up with Dionne Warwick.

Honors

She was also bestowed with the title Kentucky Colonel by Ernie Fletcher, the Governor of Kentucky. In 2004, Second Street in Russellville, where she grew up, was renamed to "Athena Cage Way" to honor her community work, youth service and efforts to restore the Old Logan Theater.
