The American Distance Education Consortium (ADEC) is a non-profit distance education consortium composed of approximately twenty state universities and land-grant colleges. ADEC was organized to promote distance education programs and services to diverse populations.

ADEC offers an open course in forensic science as part of an effort between the University of Florida and West Virginia University.

Background

ADEC was established in 1989 under the name of Ag*Sat. In 2003, ADEC received a grant from the National Science Foundation for its Advanced Internet Satellite Extension Project.

Leadership

The Administrative Council is composed of policymakers from each of the member institutions. ADEC’s board is composed of twelve voting members drawn from ADEC’s Administrative Council. A Program Panel includes individuals from member institutions charged with the strategic planning and creative development aspects of the consortium.

The ADEC president and executive director is Ian Tebbett The past president was Janet Poley.

ADEC/CABTS Joint International Conference

The conference was held August 26-29, 2014 in Beijing, China. This conference is part of ADEC’s partnership the Central Agricultural Broadcasting and Television School (CABTS).

EdFuture2014: Global Collaboration in Online Higher Education

The conference was held May 13–15, 2014 in Orlando, Florida.

Edfuture 2015 Symposium: Global Engagement in Online Learning

The EdFuture 2015 symposium is being held at Oregon State University from May 26-31, 2015. As part of the symposium, a delegation from the Chinese Central Agricultural Broadcasting and Television School (CABTS) will attend the meeting to advance further collaboration between ADEC, OSU, and CABTS.
