Alonso Cueto Caballero (born in 1954 in Lima, Peru) is a Peruvian novelist and playwright. His novel El tigre blanco (The White Tiger), published in 1985, was awarded the Premio Wiracocha. He has published regularly and currently writes for the newspaper Peru 21 and is a Professor of Journalism at the Catholic University of Peru. His novel "Grandes Miradas" was adapted into a movie ("Mariposa Negra") by Francisco Lombardi in 2006. Cueto's novel La Hora Azul/The Blue Hour won the Herralde Prize in 2006. it was published in English in 2012 (translated by Frank Wynne) and was shortlisted for the 2013 Oxford-Weidenfeld Translation Prize
