Alila Hotels and Resorts is a hotel management company that currently operates in Indonesia, India and Oman with their headquarters located in Singapore. The word Alila means “Surprise” in Sanskrit, which is the philosophy behind its properties. Alila Hotels and Resorts adopt EarthCheck operating standards and in 2014 entered into a strategic alliance with Commune Hotels & Resorts. In addition, Alila Hotels and Resorts is part of the Global Hotel Alliance.

History

Alila Hotels and Resorts was founded in May 2001 when their first property “Alila Jakarta” opened its doors in Indonesia’s capital city. The brand was founded primarily by Mark Edleson who today is the president of the group. Alila now operates 11 properties in Asia and is set to open another 17 hotels before 2018. Alila’s headquarters in Singapore was declared carbon neutral and in 2009 Alila Villas Uluwatu in Bali became the first hotel built to strict EarthCheck standards in Indonesia.

Properties

At present Alila Hotels and Resorts has a portfolio of 11 properties located in Indonesia, India and Oman. These hotels and resorts are also members of Design Hotels which features properties that showcase modern design. In December 2012, Alila Hotels and Resorts added a liveaboard Phinisi sailing ship to their portfolio named the “Alila Purnama”. It was the brand’s first luxury liveaboard ship and at present, the ship sails over the Indonesian waters of Raja Ampat and the Komodo area.

  • CSR Activities

    Gift-to-Share Programme - This programme offers guests a no-obligation option to share the ‘Gift’ by allowing them to choose whichever amount they wish to donate in support of any of the local community endeavours that are initiated or selected by the hotel or resort. Alila Villas Soori, presented a complimentary night for every night booked, while Alila Diwa Goa donated INR 3,000 to the Fr. Basilio Andrade Memorial Higher Secondary School in Majorda for every booking of any of its three "Gift to Share" opening specials packages.

    Coral Conservation Programme initiated by Alila Manggis in Bali

    The Bali Life Foundation with the support of Alila Villas Uluwatu constructed new homes for 60 orphans and offered them technical skill training.

    Donations and support to the Kupu Kupu Foundations by Alila Ubud in helping to improve the livelihood of locals who are differently-abled.

    Kemang Icon by Alila works in conjunction with Kampus Diakonia Modern (KDM) in order to help and uplift the lives of street children in Jakarta.
