Etymology

The name Actinobaculum derives from Greek noun aktis, aktinos ἀκτίς, ἀκτῖνος', a beam; Latin baculum, rod, stick; .

Species

The genus contains four species (including basonyms and synonyms), namely

  • A. massiliense (corrig. Greub and Raoult 2006; Latin massiliense, of or pertaining to Massilia, the Latin name of Marseille, where the organism was isolated.)
  • A. schaalii (Lawson et al. 1997, ; New Latin schaalii, of Schaal, to honor Klaus P. Schaal, contemporary German microbiologist, for his contributions to actinomycete microbiology.)
  • A. suis ( (Wegienek and Reddy 1982) Lawson et al. 1997, (Type species of the genus); Latin suis, of a hog, of a pig)
  • A. urinale (Hall et al. 2003; Latin urinale, of or belonging to urine)
