Achabal (Hindi: अचबल) is a village in Baramulla district, Jammu and Kashmir. It is around 5 kilometers away from Sopore town. The village is surrounded by the main villages of Rafiabad like Lorihama, Alsafa Colony, Doabgah and Ferozpora. This village is accessible by the National Highway from Ferozpora-Achabal link road which connects it to Handwara, Kupwara and other northern regions of Kashmir. It is also accessible by Ladoora-Sopore road. Achabal is said to be the most forward and richest village of Rafiabad. It is one of few villages in Kashmir to have J&K Bank which is located in BABA COMPLEX ACHABAL. Achabal is a famous village in District Baramulla. The first person to contest assembly elections from this village was Fayaz Ahmad Malik well known as Kakaji. He filed his nomination papers as independent candidate on 21 November 2014 for 2014 assembly elections. Fayaz Ahmad Malik lost in the assembly elections which were held on 9 December 2014 and results declared on 23 December 2014. He lost to Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Democratic Partys Yawar Ahmad Mir son of Mohamad Dilawar Mir.

Education

Achabal village has one government run High School and around 6 middle and primary schools. it has one private run high school also, Sheikh ul Alam Public School, which is run by the Auqaf Committee of Achabal and was formerly chair-manned by Bashir ul Hassan Malik and now by Auqaf committee president Fayaz Ahmad Malik. The village has produced many doctors and engineers. As far as education is concerned the achabal village has a literacy rate of 71.3% according to census 2011.

Religion

All the people of this village are sunni Muslims. This village has one Jamia Masjid and around six mosques which are located in respective mohallas like Astanpora, Nageenpora, Batpora and Chotipora. Jamia Masjid is located in main chowk Malikpora. Achabal has two darul uloom's, one in main chowk & another in chotipora. Eid prayers were mostly offered in Eidgah which is located near bus stand. In recent years there were many controversies regarding the ownership of the said Eidgah between Achabal and neighbouring Doabgah and On the intervening night of 09 September 2011 there was a fierce fight between the residents of the two villages,which resulted the huge loss of property and left the people of Doabgah red faced. Revenue records detail the actual ownership of land belongs to the residents of Achabal but Doabgah residents are unwilling to accept the fact and the matter is pending before the court of law.

Playground

There is a large playground located near High School which is commonly known as Shall Goph(Green Park,Labar shath) where every year, tournaments of cricket & football are held by local residents. This ground iz large as compared to other two small grounds which are located in Goripora & another near Sheikhul Alam high school . A water stream, Vij flows on three sides of shall goph(Green park,labar shath) playground.

Healthcare

This village has one Govt. Allopathic Dispensary which almost sans all the basic needs. So patients prefer Sopore, Baramulla towns which have good healthcare facilities. The village has 3 clinics of local resident doctors, one in nageenpora run by Dr. Gh Hassan Malik(CMO),second in Astanpora run by Dr. Mukhtar Baba(CMO) and the third in Malikpora near Jamia Masjid run by Dr. Firdous Malik.
