Abdurashikhanov Munavvar qori was one of the biggest representatives of Uzbekistan, who fought for national independence during Soviet times. He was also a poet.

Biography

Abdurashikhanov Munavvar qori was born in 1878, in the district Shayx Xovand Tohur, which is located in Tashkent. He was born in well educated family and he was the youngest child of that family. In the years of 1885–1990 he studied in Bukhara, at Mirarab madrasa. After finishing his studies at Mirarab madrasa, he came back to Tashkent, and worked as imam at Darkhon mosque.

In the last decade of the 19th century he started Jadism and in 1901 he opened his schools for Jadism in all parts of Tashkent city. During 1907 he wrote books for those schools called "Abibi Avval","Abibi soniy". In those years he also wrote some poems for young children.

During the year 1909 he founded "Jamiyati xayriya" society in Tashkent. In 1917 after the revolution he tried to set up the democratic government called Turkesten. However, his attempts saw only failure.

In 1929 because of his Jadist views, he was sent to prison by the Soviet government and was killed in 1931 by shooting. His funeral was held in Moscow. His grave is located in Moscow, Vagankovo cemetery.

Contributions

His literary contributions to Uzbek society started from the middle 1904th. During those years he started working in different magazines and newspapers of Uzbekistan which are : "Taraqqiy", "Shuhrat", "Osiyo", "Tujjor". In 1906 he started his own newspaper called "Xurshid".

He is the creator of numerous textbooks for children, which are "Adibi avval"(1907), "Usuli hisob", "Tavjid" (1911), "Yer yuzi" (1916–17). In 1914 he published the book called "Sabzavor", which was the collection of poems written by Uzbek poets.

Abdurashikhanov Munavvar qori was the national hero of Uzbekistan, and he fought for independence till the last years of his life. In 1991, by the resolution of Islam Karimov his name was honored and magnified officially.
