Rivalry culture

The rivalry between AIK and Hammarby is generally considered to be a massive derby in Stockholm. AIK and Hammarby are arguably the two football clubs with the biggest support in Sweden. In 2015, two of the games between these two teams had an attendance of 41 063 and 41 630 respectively, which is more than any other matches in the nordic countries. AIK was founded in the Norrmalm district but has since 1937 been based in the municipality of Solna and have the largest portion of their support in the northern and western parts of the city. Hammarby, meanwhile, was founded in the Södermalm district and has most of its support in the south, meaning the game symbolizes the struggle between different parts of Stockholm.
