The 2016–17 Spartan South Midlands Football League season is the 18th in the history of Spartan South Midlands Football League a football competition in England.

Premier Division

The Premier Division consists of 22 clubs.

The following 3 clubs left the Premier Division before the season -

  • AFC Dunstable – promoted to Southern League Division One Central
  • Bedford – relegated to Division One
  • Harefield United – relegated to Division One
  • The following 3 clubs joined the Premier Division before the season -

  • Crawley Green – promoted from Division One
  • Edgware Town – promoted from Division One
  • Leighton Town – relegated from Southern League Division One Central
  • Promotion criteria

    To be promoted at the end of the season a team must:

    1. Have applied to be considered for promotion by the end of November
    2. Pass a ground grading examination by the end of March
    3. Finish the season in a position higher than that of any other team also achieving criteria 1 and 2
    4. Finish the season in one of the top three positions

    The following eight teams have achieved criterion one:

  • Berkamsted
  • Biggleswade United
  • Hertford Town
  • Hoddesdon Town
  • London Colney
  • Tring Athletic
  • Welwyn Garden City
  • Wembley
  • Division One

    Division One consists of 21 clubs.

    The following 4 clubs left the division before the season -

  • Arlesey Town reserves – relegated to Division Two
  • Crawley Green – promoted to Premier Division
  • Edgware Town – promoted to Premier Division
  • Woodford Town – resigned from league
  • The following 5 clubs joined the division before the season -

  • Bedford – relegated from Premier Division
  • Biggleswade – promoted from Division Two
  • Hadley Wood & Wingate – promoted from Hertfordshire Senior County League Premier Division
  • Harefield United – relegated from Premier Division
  • Kensington Borough – promoted from Division Two, with a name change from AFC Hillgate
