The 2012–13 season was Football Club Internazionale Milano's 81st consecutive season in Serie A. The team competed in Serie A, the Coppa Italia and the UEFA Europa League. The 2012–13 season resulted in Inter's worst finish in Serie A since 1993–94, finishing ninth following a serious knee injury to star striker Diego Milito and an Achilles tendon injury to long-term captain Javier Zanetti. Contrary to the previous one-and-a-half seasons under the guidance of Andrea Stramaccioni, Inter's offense and defense malfunctioned, and in May Stramaccioni was sacked by the club, with successful former Napoli coach Walter Mazzarri taking over on the next day.
