  • January 1 - Cyprus adopts the euro currency, becoming the 14th country to do so. Cypriot pound will remain valid in shops until the end of the month, and exchangeable at the central bank for some years.

  • February 17 - The Cypriot presidential election, 2008 took place.
  • February 24 - The runoff of the Cypriot presidential election was held and Demetris Christofias was elected President.
  • March

  • March 5-12 - 2008 Cyprus Cup took place and Canada women's national soccer team won the competition.
  • May

  • May 24 - Eurovision Song Contest 2008 Final took place and Evdokia Kadi's Femme Fatale was chosen to represent Cyprus in the contest in 2008.

  • Cyprus competed in the 2008 Summer Olympics. The country didn't have an Olympic medalist.
