Teams
The following teams entered the tournament (and played at least one match):
First Round
Ghana and Zimbabwe were disqualified due to using ineligible players. Ethiopia withdrew after playing one match. Mauritius withdrew before playing so Mozambique received a bye.
Quarterfinals
Mozambique withdrew before playing so Somalia received a bye.
Qualification to World Youth Championship
The two best performing teams qualified for the 1987 FIFA World Youth Championship.
