19 January - Dato' Onn Jaafar the founder of UMNO dies. His body was laid to rest at Makam Mahmoodiah, Johor Bahru.

10 April - Stadium Negara, Malaya's first indoor stadium is officially opened.

22 November- 1 December - Malaya competed at the 1962 British Empire and Commonwealth Games in Perth, Western Australia with achieve 1 bronze medals in weightlifting sports.
