1116 SEN (ACMA callsign: 3AK), the acronym standing for Sports Entertainment Network, is a commercial AM radio station based in Melbourne, Australia, operating on 1116 kHz. It is currently owned and operated by Pacific Star Network Limited.
SEN began in late January 2004 in a deal engineered by former 5AA General Manager, Danny Staffieri, leasing the 3AK frequency from Pacific Star Network Limited. (For the history of 3AK, 1931-2004, refer to the link to 3AK.)
In early 2005 SEN 1323 was launched in Adelaide simulcasting from SEN 1116 bar the Saturday morning show (Mark Aiston, Matthew Primus & Mark Bickley) & SANFL broadcasts. This ceased after SEN 1323 went into administration and was rebranded as Cruise 1323.
In July 2015, the newsroom shared between SEN and sister station 3MP 1377 was closed, replaced with a service from Macquarie National News.
In November 2015, it was announced that Francis Leach would depart ABC Grandstand Digital following the axing of the Grandstand Breakfast programme, and will again join SEN, hosting Breakfast with Frank and Ox alongside David “The Ox” Schwarz to replace The Morning Glory. Current co-host Andy Maher will move to afternoons, launching SEN Afternoons., moving Daniel Harford into drive with Mark Allen. Andrew Gaze will remain in a fill-in role, with Tim Watson to remain a contributor on breakfast during the 2016 AFL season.
Breakfast with Garry, Tim & Hamish is hosted by Garry Lyon, Tim Watson and Hamish McLachlan. The show was originally called Morning Glory and has been hosted by Garry Lyon, Billy Brownless and Tim Watson, but Lyon left the show after 2004 and Maher was brought in. Watson left the show at the end of 2013, but returned for 2015, and will be a daily contributor on the new show during the 2016 AFL season. Regular contributors include Matt Thompson, Simon Hill and Leigh Paatsch.Hungry for Sport is hosted by Kevin "KB" Bartlett, Hungry for Sport is a play on Bartlett's nickname of Hungry. Regular segments include appearances from Patrick Smith, Greg Denham (chief football writer for The Australian), "Get something off your chest", The Buzz, Jon Ralph, "Friday Sports Chat" with Neil Balme and Dave Culbert.Afternoons is hosted by Andy Maher. The show commenced in 2016 replacing Harf Time which was hosted by Daniel Harford who moved to the drive shift.The Run Home is hosted by Mark Allen and David Schwarz. Dermott Brereton was in place of Schwarz since the show's inception in 2004, when the original lineup included Hudson, Brereton and Matthew Hardy. Mark take listeners calls on The Soapbox, with some regular characters including Terrence from Toorak, Vito, Jose from Spain, Mario from Doncaster, Jim from Hawthorn, Steve from Mitcham and Andy from Pakenham. Regular sporting contributors include Nick Maxwell, Dermott Brereton, Rohan Connolly, Scott Lucas, Mark Robinson and Cameron Mooney. There are also lifestyle segments including Your Money with Jason Cunningham and Tech Talk with Danny Gorog. Daniel Harford hosted the show until he resigned from the station in November 2016.Evenings with Mark Fine airs evenings, with the show sometimes running longer on Friday nights.All Night Appetite runs overnight.
