Zinstall Migration Kit Pro is a PC migration software, which allows to transfer applications, settings and files from one computer to another. The Kit allows to transfer from a live computer, from a backup of a computer, or directly from an old computer's hard drive. This is the Pro version of Zinstall's migration product line.

Operation

Zinstall Migration Kit Pro supports several transfer scenarios (see below). In all of the scenarios, the product transfers the user workspace from one computer to another, including applications, settings and files - unless the user applies a selective transfer as described below.

Direct PC to PC transfer

In this scenario, the transfer is done directly from one "live" machine to another "live" machine. The transfer is done over some form of network connection - router, network, direct cable or a wireless connection. In order to initial the transfer, the user should run the software on old and new computers, which then auto-locate each other on the network. The transfer is then initiated on the new computer. The old computer is not changed and nothing is removed from it.

Transfer directly from old PC's hard drive

In this scenario, the transfer is done directly from the old (source) machine's hard drive. The drive can be connected externally (USB adapter / enclosure), or internally, as a secondary drive. This scenario works even for old computers that are unable to boot, as long as the data is intact.

Indirect transfer (via network storage / external drive)

In this scenario, the source machine is captured into a Container file, which can be stored on an external USB drive, a network share, or any other location. This container is then moved over to the target machine, and migration is completed there. The advantage of this transfer scenario is that it does not require the machines to be live at the same time, or to be in the same physical location. In fact, it can even be used for in-place upgrade or migration to Cloud.

Transfer options

In all transfer scenarios, these options are available:

Selective Migration

User is able to select which programs are transferred or not. Same selectivity is available for files, folders, user profiles and registry entries.

Profile-only Migration

A special mode which allows to transfer everything except the actual programs, without performing a detailed selection.

SSD Mode

Splits the transfer from one source drive to two separate drives on the target. Intended for use on hybrid SSD/HDD targets, where a primary SSD is smaller than the original drive, and the secondary HDD is used for data storage.

Zinstall Migration Kit Pro supports Windows XP and higher, both on source and on target of the transfer, including Windows 10. Transfers from 32-bit to 64-bit systems are supported as well.
