Top Chinese diplomat being investigated for corruption
Zhang Kunsheng (born August 1958) is a former Chinese politician. He was investigated by the Communist Party of China's anti-graft agency in January 2015. Previously he served as Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs (MFA).

Life and career
Zhang was born and raised in Kunming, Yunnan, while his ancestral home in Shanxi. He graduated from Peking University in 1995, with a Doctor of law degree. He was assigned to Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) in 1985. In 1998 he became the First Secretary of Chinese Embassy in the United States of America, a position he held until 2001. He served as Counselor of the Department of North American and Oceanian Affairs of the MFA from 2001 to 2003, Counselor of the General Office of the MFA from 2003 to 2007, and Director-General of the Protocol Department of the MFA from 2007 to 2011. He was promoted to Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs in 2011.
On January 2, 2015, he was placed under investigation by the Communist Party's anti-corruption agency for "suspected disciplinary violation".
On May 12, 2016, Zhang was expelled from the Communist Party for "joining private clubs, accepting gifts and money and trading power for sex".
Personal life
Zhang was married to Xiao Jie (Chinese: 肖杰), a former badminton player of China national badminton team, they have a daughter.
