History
Founded in 2009, Zerto is a privately held company funded by Battery Ventures, Greylock and U.S. Venture Partners. The company was co-founded by Ziv and Oded Kedem. Ziv Kedem had previously been a founder of Kashya, which was acquired in 2006 by EMC.
On June 19, 2014, the company closed a $26 million Series D funding round, with new investor Harmony Partners leading the round. Zerto’s current investors include Battery Ventures, Greylock IL, RTP Venture and US Venture Partners, all of which participated in this most recent round of funding.
Products
Zerto provides disaster recovery solutions for virtualized and cloud infrastructures. The company’s main product, Zerto Virtual Replication, was released in August 2011. It uses 'hypervisor-based replication', a technology that moves asynchronous replication from the physical storage and disk arrays to the virtualization abstraction layer. This allows for storage-agnostic replication; i.e., a virtual machine ("VM") can be replicated to another VM operating on a different storage technology.
A later version, Zerto Virtual Replication 4.0, was released in May 2015, and is considered the first software product allowing the protection, recovery, and migration of data between VMware vSphere and Microsoft Hyper-V hypervisors, as well as across private, hybrid and public cloud environments including Amazon Web Services (AWS).
Awards
Zerto Virtual Replication has been recognized by some of the industry's top organizations. For instance, at VMworld's 2011 Best of Show awards, Zerto's was proclaimed the winner because the Virtual Replication solution was "replication done right".
