Zepo was founded in mid-2011, and incubated by Indian startup accelerator- The Morpheus Gang. The company has offices in Mumbai and Bengaluru and currently hosts more than 1500 online stores on its platform.

Zepo was founded in 2011 by Nitin Purswani, an H.R. College of Commerce and Economics alumnus. Post graduation, Nitin along with a friend launched a T-shirt manufacturing business However, although the business started scaling, they couldn’t take it online due to multiple factors mainly technology, logistics and payment gateways. Zepo claims to address the same problems, that he faced then, with its offerings.
On 13 Dec 2014 Zepo raised its second round of funding from existing investor One97 Mobility Fund and Anupam Mittal of Shaadi.com. The funding amount was although not disclosed.
The company was awarded with Express IT award under Entrepreneurship category in 2014.

In mid-2014, Zepo launched a social initiative called ChotuChaiWala.com- an online store that helps tea vendors of Mumbai(Chaiwallahs) sell their tea online. The store offered tea to its customers on subscription basis and one can sign up for weekly, fortnightly or monthly subscriptions on the website. Initially piloted in Bandra, within a month of its launch 60 users in Bandra had signed up with Chotuchaiwala.com and over 750 cups of tea had been delivered.
